It’s a well-documented fact that Jim McIngvale is one of Houston Astros’ most committed fans. Although, perhaps that name will be unfamiliar to people as McIngvale is more commonly known as ‘Mattress Mack’ owing to the fact that he owns a string of furniture stores in Houston.
Essentially, there isn’t a fan more passionate about the fortunes of the MLB franchise, and the 71-year-old isn’t afraid to put his money where his mouth is when it comes to backing his team to win.
Mattress Mack will need a lie-down after Astros win World Series
That was proved when McIngvale placed a number of bets adding up to $10 million on the Astros winning the 2022 World Series. At the time, ‘Mattress Mack’ stood to win in the region of $75 million if the Astros were able to go all the way in baseball’s greatest competition. As we now know, per CNN, they beat the faltering Philadelphia Phillies in six games on the 6th of November to win the 2022 World Series and in the process, allowed McIngvale to pick up a hefty payout.

This is thought to be the biggest payout in betting history, according to ESPN, but the story gets even more intriguing given that the furniture magnate reportedly won’t get to see a large percentage of his winnings.
Chiefly, this is down to the fact that he offered customers of his various furniture stores, the chance to double their money back if they spent over $3000 on selected items on the proviso that the Astros won the World Series.
Needless to say, there was a rush to capitalize on this deal, especially from those who were in the know when it came to the latest goings-on in MLB. Put another way, if the time had come to invest in a new lounge suite or mattress and you had a feeling that the in-form Astros would be able to win the World Series, then McIngvale’s deal would have looked like an unmissable one. As it turned out, that proved to be just the case.

In reality, it’s easy to see how this would have been McIngvale’s most successful advertising campaign he has ever run in his career, and going forward, you can be certain that punters from around America and indeed the world may take him up on his next offer.
Interestingly, the opening prices on who might win the 2023 World Series have the Astros as favorites at odds of just +550 so there might well be another McIngvale special in the pipeline. Conversely, perhaps this time around though, ‘Mattress Mack’ may favor an outsider like the Cleveland Guardians, who are at currently priced at odds of +3500.
It’s worth quickly saying that these high odds on the Guardians will naturally serve as disappointing news to proud fans in the Buckeye State but in keeping with the latest betting happenings, supporters in the region are set to be allowed to use online betting apps to wager on the MLB from January, 1st 2023.
Here, BonusFinder has listed many apps that work in Ohio as well as other details Ohioans need to know in order to wager online. The Reds and the Guardians may offer little to cheer about next season, but Ohioans will have another way to interact with their beloved sport and potentially make use of their in-depth knowledge.
Expect the unexpected next season…
With that said, sport is unpredictable and the world witnessed as much when across the pond, Leicester City defied their +500000 odds to win the Premier League.
Needless to say, all eyes will be on what happens next season during the 2023 MLB campaign as well as who the now world-famous ‘Mattress Mack’ decides to back.
